A friend gave me a copy of this book, knowing that I love humor. This book is hilarious! You can't make this stuff up. I understand that they are actual police blotters from a small town. Sometimes Ellen Degeneres puts this type of thing on her tv show.
Anyway, the book is great to have around for when I need to relax or soothe my soul with a good hearty laugh. )
I was never one for reading on the toilet. I always thought of that alone time as something you go, and get over with as soon as possible. A friend then recommended this book to me, and that all changed. He told me to read this book on the toilet, as that is the way it was best experienced. I was skeptical at first, but not I completely understand the point he was trying to make. This is not a book that you sit down and read like a novel, but instead something that you can pick up from time to time and have a good laugh.
The book consists of a collection of police phone calls from Grass Valley, Ca (both important and not so much) and if you have ever been there then you understand this is in no way a Shakespearian epic. This is where the book succeeds the most. It takes the drab boredom of small town life and puts it in black and white allowing you to truly understand how meaningless much of what goes on in the world is.
Even if you don't read this on the toilet (although I would recommend it) definitely give this a read. It's a quick good time, and your probably not going to find anything else like it around.
I bought this book on a whim. I like to hear dumb criminals stories and was happy to find many in this book. I plan to buy more for gifts. In a time when the world is full of sad stories and stress this book is good for a giggle. It is an easy read and you can jump around to different chapters as the mood hits you. I came from a small town and many of these characters could have been my neighbors. You won't be disappointed.
"War and Peace" this book is not, but it is a fun little disctraction. You remember the expression 'Truth is stranger than fiction'? Well, its kind of like that. It's fun, clever and very enjoyable.
Parts of the book was funny but not all if it. I grew up in this town and I've definitely heard better calls.
Hometown Police Blotter is hilarious! I have purchased 4 as gifts and everyone loves them. This book will make you laugh on every page. The best part is that the stories are true. I'm glad to see this is Volume One. I hope that means there are more volumes on the way.
I love it! I bought 4 and gave them out as Christmas gifts! Everyone loved them!! I came from Grass Valley and now live in Corona, CA. It is fun to bring some of Grass Valley here! My friends can't believe that this stuff really happens...they thought I was making it up! I can't wait for the next Volume.....like I said...excellent gifts!!!
